Brain fog is not a vague mood. It has real, identifiable mechanisms behind it, several of which get measurably worse the moment the days start shortening. Understanding what is actually happening in your body gives you something considerably more useful than a list of vague wellness advice. It gives you eight specific, physiologically grounded steps that work with the problem rather than around it.

## Why autumn specifically makes this worse

Shortening daylight shifts your circadian rhythm, the internal clock regulating when cortisol rises to wake you and when melatonin releases to help you sleep. Less morning light delays that cortisol rise, which is a large part of why autumn mornings feel harder even before anything else in your life has changed. Reduced sunlight also lowers vitamin D synthesis in the skin, and low vitamin D has been linked in research to fatigue and mood changes, though the size of that effect varies considerably between people. None of this is a character flaw. It is measurable biology responding to measurably less light.
