A show that fans had to fight to keep alive, then watched end for good in 2022, is coming back. This time it is a game, and the player is the one steering the ship.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn was revealed at the Future Games Show by developer Owlcat Games, working in partnership with Alcon Interactive Group, the company behind the original television series. Owlcat built its reputation on Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and the Pathfinder role-playing games, titles known for long, branching stories where a player's choices carry weight across dozens of hours. That is the studio now inheriting a universe built by writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, who published as James S. A. Corey.

## Fans flew a banner over Amazon to keep the story going

This is not the first time The Expanse has been pulled back from the brink. Syfy cancelled the show in May 2018 after three seasons, and a wave of fans refused to accept it. They organized as the “Screaming Firehawks,” ran a petition, and crowdfunded a plane to fly a #SaveTheExpanse banner over Amazon's headquarters. About two weeks later, Jeff Bezos announced Amazon was picking the show up. It ran three more seasons and closed out its story in 2022. A 2023 Telltale game continued the franchise once the show was done. Osiris Reborn is the next chapter after that.

Part of why people fought for this one is what it is actually about. The Belters, the show's spacer underclass, work the mines and the tunnels while Earth and Mars fight over resources and status. It is a story about labor, class, and the families squeezed by both, set against a backdrop of ships and planets. That is a rare thing to find in space opera, and it suits a studio known for slow, serious RPGs rather than a quick action tie-in.

## You play a Pinkwater mercenary and choose where you come from

Osiris Reborn is a single-player, third-person, narrative-driven RPG, and the studio says the emphasis is on companions, relationships, and choices that shape how the story plays out. The player commands a customizable Pinkwater mercenary and picks an origin, Earther, Martian, or Belter captain, before running squad-based missions with two squadmates chosen from a roster of seven recruitable companions. The story is set on Ganymede, where the job is recovering data from Pinkwater Station.

The game is set for spring 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, Epic, and GOG. It will be on Xbox Game Pass from the day it launches, so a subscription alone will get a player in the door.

That is more than a year out, plenty of time for a father who watched the show end in 2022 to revisit it, or to finally start it with a kid who is now old enough for it.
