That combination has just earned it a fourth consecutive year at the top of Numbeo's Quality of Life Index, the most closely watched ranking of urban living conditions in the world.

The 2026 edition holds a bigger surprise than the four-peat itself. Of the eleven highest-scoring cities on the planet, six sit inside one small country roughly the size of Switzerland.
