On Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth posted a video to X titled 'The High-T Department of War,' announcing that every active duty and reserve service member aged 30 and older will now undergo annual testosterone screening as part of their regular health assessment. Those under 30 can request the test voluntarily. Anyone who screens below a normal range will be offered testosterone replacement therapy, though taking it will remain optional.

'Our most decisive tactical advantage will always be the individual war fighter,' Hegseth said in the video, framing the policy as a way of keeping troops on what he called the leading edge of lethality. Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed the mandate applies across all active duty and reserve component personnel, a population that included more than 375,000 men over 30 on active duty in 2024 alone, with another 305,500 in the National Guard and reserves.
